Syd (00:00.491)

Alright, so first off, welcome to our podcast. And today we have a special guest, Amy, and she's gonna talk a little bit to us about who she is and what her business is because it's useful for haunted attractions. So this is right up our alley and we're excited to talk to her. Alright, so first off, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Amy (00:23.05)

Yeah, so just to start off by myself, I started out working in a haunted house as an actress when I was 16 and I've always had a passion for anything horror or Halloween related.

Syd (00:43.711)

That's cool. Yeah, I started young too. I think, yeah, I started a little later than you. I was 15 when I started. But yeah, it's kind of addicting. Once you get a little bit of it, you can't stop. What was the haunted attraction you used to work at?

Amy (00:56.973)

Right.

Amy (01:01.102)

It was Creeper's Haunted House.

Syd (01:03.339)

Okay, that sounds cool. Alright, so, why do you love Halloween or horror?

Amy (01:12.774)

Oh, well, guess what's not to love about it. You know, it's like the one time of the year where you can get to be anything you want and no one really judges you for it. And also too, you know, just like, you know, anything like, I guess it's like scary stuff. You know, I just like scary stuff in general, I guess.

Syd (01:37.167)

So just automatically kind of stuck.

Amy (01:40.514)

Yeah, it automatically kind of stuck. Like when I was in school, I was like the goth kid wore like all the hot topic clothes and stuff. So I guess like it's just like always been there with me.

Syd (01:51.031)

and then you just find a profession that kind of fits that. It's perfect. That is awesome.

Amy (01:55.442)

Yeah, yeah, just kind of find a profession that fits it kind of perfect.

Syd (02:01.631)

Yeah, Halloween is... a lot of times kids like it for the candy, but even when I was little I liked it more for the dressing up and the creativity, so I can agree with that. Hehehehe Yeah. I love Halloween. Still, till this day, it's like, you get to be a big kid again. That's another reason, I think, why it's a popular holiday.

Amy (02:12.159)

Yeah, me as well.

Amy (02:23.434)

Yeah, very true.

Syd (02:25.495)

So what is your company and what do you do?

Amy (02:28.898)

So my company is Salemcraft and we build websites and also provide digital marketing services to haunted attractions, horror related companies, and also destinations that may be odd and obscure or small businesses that may be odd or obscure.

Syd (02:31.381)

Mm-hmm.

Syd (02:50.743)

That's cool. So like if someone had a store that was Halloween themed or even like, I don't know, maybe like a freak show, you could even help them out too. Or oddities. That's awesome.

Amy (03:00.566)

Yeah, most definitely.

Yeah, for oddities. We must definitely could help them out.

Syd (03:09.227)

Yeah, I was looking at some of the work on the website and I was going to say it's very, very professional looking. Like I was like, dang, this looks really good. So if you haven't checked out or seen any of our work, make sure you go to the website. It's really cool and we'll put the website and everything in the link. But yeah, for sure, make sure you check it out. So, so you said you loved Halloween, obviously, and that's a big part of it. But why in this line of work?

Amy (03:40.278)

Well, in this line of work, I guess it's just like trying to create.

Amy (03:48.758)

Yeah, something that I guess is just. Affordable and something that is. Customizable to the. To the business or the haunted attraction that we're working with, really. I just I just have a passion for I guess building websites. You know, it's like I said, as well as Halloween, so I guess it goes hand in hand with one another.

Syd (04:13.663)

Yeah, they just kinda go together. That's pretty cool. Yeah, that's really cool and it's good, so when you customize them, you can pretty much do anything. So if they have like a certain character or anything like that, you can actually put it on their site.

Amy (04:29.162)

Yeah, correct. And also too, you know, we've got our websites. We like to use WordPress as our content management system and I wrote some really cool plugins that allow calendars to be made that are graphical so they can have like textures on them, custom fonts, custom colors. And the cool thing is, is the haunted house can even go and update them themselves without having any programming knowledge or knowing how to work a website. They just.

Syd (04:44.108)

Okay.

Amy (04:58.57)

basically pick from a calendar interface and then it generates the calendar for them and they can pick like any month that they want, you know, September, October, sometimes they roll into, you know, a couple of weeks in the beginning of November. So they can make all these different calendars and have them to market on their website however they want.

Syd (05:17.215)

Oh, that's really cool, especially since now some haunts are going into holidays like Christmas and Valentine's Day and Scream Break and all that. So then they can even update it then and even add that part of it. That's pretty cool.

Amy (05:30.434)

Yep, most definitely. And that's just something unique that we kind of offer that we're not aware of any of our competitors offering that exact feature.

Syd (05:41.271)

That is cool. Yeah, and I also noticed you said affordable, which is also nice because some of the other people that do websites or graphic design or whatever, it's pretty pricey. It can be very, very expensive. And especially if you're a smaller haunt or a home haunt, you don't necessarily have that kind of funding to do something like that.

Amy (06:03.81)

Yeah, most definitely. And for those like home haunts and stuff, like we do have kind of like, you know, packages that we don't display on our website that, you know, we can discuss with them if they contact us. And like I said, you know, we understand, you know, that not everyone has, you know, a big budget to spend. So we kind of want to stay affordable. And, you know, even if it's just a one page website for them with some graphics that are catered to them.

that works better than having nothing at all.

Syd (06:36.127)

Yeah, yeah it does. It makes a difference, especially since home haunts are becoming more and more popular. And some of them are quite really, like, amazing. Some of them are even better than some of the pro haunts. But, you know, like you said, they just don't necessarily have the budget to, you know, afford all that stuff. And I mean, haunt stuff in general is expensive. And everything has always been going up in price. So, it's good that you work with people. That's really awesome. And I'm sure other haunters will appreciate that as well.

Amy (07:06.806)

Yeah, I hope so. Like I said, I try to be reasonable, so...

Syd (07:11.891)

Yeah, yeah, I mean, and you still have to make something too, so it's totally understandable. So, yeah, right? So what is your main passion with your company and why do you continue to do it?

Amy (07:16.418)

Correct.

Amy (07:25.546)

main passion with my company, I would say it would be just having the opportunity to work with really cool, unique individuals and unique companies in general. Just give them the opportunity to be able to take like, you know, their, I guess, what's the word I'm looking for here, I guess their idea and turning it into reality for them, you know,

something, you know, maybe they don't want something completely like horror related, maybe they want something more, you know, friendly Halloweeny, you know, rather than something like, you know, gory related. So I would say that's my main passion is just being able to, you know, like I said, work with those unique individuals and companies. And the reason why I continue to do it is I love doing it. It allows me to express my creativity and allows me to express kind of like, you know, who I am through art and

I don't think there's anything better in this world being able to express yourself.

Syd (08:28.671)

Yeah, that's totally true. And, and haunters are really unusual and some interesting people, like you said. And some of them are just like, a lot of the people I've met are just so nice and extremely cool. But, and then when you see them either doing their craft or they're in their makeup or in character and you're like, I can't believe that's the same person.

Amy (08:48.007)

Yeah, it's like transformation. You can't believe it's the same person. So yeah, I've dealt with that too.

Syd (08:52.877)

Yeah.

They're like, they're really scary, but in real life they're like some of the nicest people. It's really funny. And some people have that, you know, like that... What would you call that? They think that, you know, everybody's mean in the industry, or they just like scaring people and being mean, and it's like, it's totally opposite of that.

Amy (09:14.598)

I yeah it's totally opposite I remember I ran into one of my high school friends that I lost contact with inside a haunted house and I was walking through it and I just happened to look over and I catch a glimpse and I'm like Caleb is that you and he was like oh my god Amy and I'm like what in the world and then it's like he just came out of character he went from like a splash

Amy (09:44.298)

What is going on right now? I'm confused.

Syd (09:47.135)

Yeah. That's funny. I've had people do that too, and then people that don't know that you know each other, sometimes that freaks them out even more if they're in the hot. They're like, Why are they hugging? What's going on over there? Which is really funny.

Amy (10:00.79)

Why is that witch thinking a zombie? I don't understand right now. What is going on here?

Syd (10:06.839)

It's funny. It's like sometimes the weirdest things scare people, and you're just like I don't I don't know Oh geez What would be your ideal customer and why?

Amy (10:13.299)

I can't believe you understand.

Syd (10:21.838)

Yeah.

Amy (10:23.051)

My ideal customer would be, I honestly, I don't know if I have an ideal customer, I guess just a friendly, unique individual, that would be my ideal customer. So far that's been my experience with people in this industry.

Syd (10:38.771)

Oh, that's good. That's good. You never know. But yeah, that's good because again, in this industry, just like any industry, there's good and bad. So, it's good that you haven't had any bad experiences. That's a good thing. Where do you see yourself and your company in five years?

Amy (10:59.53)

I would love to see my company grow and just blossom into, you know, I don't ever want us to become a corporation. I want us to stay more startup feel, but I'd love to be able to, in a few years be able to hire on, you know, some extra hands, you know, just that kind of help with some of the design work and things, but in five years, I, you know, I hope to be still around and to be doing this.

Syd (11:26.295)

That's awesome. Do you do a lot of things yourself then, as of right now?

Amy (11:30.826)

Right now I currently do so people work with me they get that personalized touch all the way through the whole project of building the website to launching the website notes and doing maintenance and all that kind of stuff.

Syd (11:33.455)

Okay.

Syd (11:45.623)

so they would work directly with you. That's really cool.

Amy (11:48.362)

Yeah, they work directly with me and that's kind of like a lot of people like that being able to work directly with the founder and the owner of the business. I just you know it's one of those things to like this is this company is like my baby right like I very passionate about it and I have a very hard time you know even if I were to hire say someone right now I have a very hard time and slam my trust in them because you know it's.

Syd (11:55.798)

Mm-hmm.

Amy (12:17.162)

It's like my baby, it's my passion.

Syd (12:18.547)

Yeah, yeah. And you don't want to hire anybody who's gonna not have the same vision or... And that's hard nowadays. Trust is a hard thing. So I can totally understand that. I get it. It's hard to find good people and like people you can trust. And then also the skills that you're gonna need them to have too.

Amy (12:37.582)

Right, yeah, completely. This is a very niche type of work and it's a lot of photo manipulation. So it's one of those things, like you really have to have like an eye and you really have to like, you have to be into like Halloween and horror and you have to really like, you think outside the box of like, okay, what is scary? What is, you know, borderline like, you know,

not going to offend people too, because you don't want to make a graphic that's going to offend someone either. So you have to instill that trust in. And like in today's world too, AI is a big thing too. So there's a lot of art generators and photo generators that can make things, which is kind of cool, but you can kind of like usually always tell when AI has generated something and it's just not the same quality as having someone do the actual design work for you.

Syd (13:11.733)

Yeah.

Syd (13:34.711)

Yeah. Yeah, that makes sense. So how long has your company been in business?

Amy (13:39.682)

So we have been in business actually for just a few months. I actually, I have ran another company in the past called Nightmare Designs. That was founded back in the early 2000s. And under that company, I did some work for some pretty big names. I worked for Haunt World. I've also worked for a company called Monstertronics, Jeff Londos on that. And unfortunately he passed away.

Syd (13:44.702)

Oh wow.

Syd (13:51.137)

Okay

Amy (14:09.278)

I think it was back in, I think it was in 2019, I think it's when he passed away. And I had to find that out just by finding his obituary online. I didn't even know. I was trying to get in touch with him and that's how I found out. So, unfortunately, but yeah, I mean, like I said, it's been out for a few months, but we are steadily growing pretty quick.

Syd (14:14.571)

Oh wow.

Syd (14:24.982)

Oh.

Amy (14:38.582)

get this like full force in the middle of October is probably the worst time.

Syd (14:44.436)

Yeah.

Yeah, that's not easy. Is it like it once a day? It's like I want to say July for a lot of hunts. That's when like their season kind of starts. And then once it hits September and October, it's like, oh, my gosh, it's crazy.

Amy (15:00.45)

It's funny because I've had on a house is literally like a week before October before the past contact me and be like Hey, I need a website built and I'm like That's not really like gonna help you. Let's focus somewhere else and Or they'll contact and they'll be like, hey my social media is just not getting anywhere And I'm like, you know, they're like, oh, I just created my Facebook like a week ago and I'm like

Syd (15:08.568)

Mm-hmm.

Amy (15:24.598)

Like Facebook themselves are not even going to allow you to organically rank anywhere and show up anywhere. So, you know, it takes time for marketing to work. And that's one thing I think a lot of people fail to understand is that marketing is not something that happens overnight. It does take time and it takes like every quarter, you have to like review your marketing and kind of go from there to see what you need to adjust.

Syd (15:52.559)

And that's good you brought that up because again if you're not really in that industry or no, you're going to think like everything just magically happens and it's like, no there's planning, you know marketing there's planning and all kinds of stuff that's involved. It's not just putting something out and everybody's going to you know, oh my gosh that's awesome. So it does take planning. So it's good that you did bring that up because I think that's another thing kind of in the industry is everyone thinks that things are like done constant, like they're just.

It just shows up. Like, I mean, even like when people order props or masks, you know, around this time, they'd think, oh, you know, it's just gonna, they just have to ship it. But sometimes, you know, they have to detail it or put makeup or like even with masks, sometimes they have to make them as the orders come in. So it's like, that's one thing that I think this industry is like, they need to get over thinking that it's gonna be constant or they're gonna get it like within the next day. It's like, no, that's like.

Not gonna happen right away, everything takes time.

Amy (16:53.386)

Yeah, no, I completely agree with that. And I think that that's just like, kind of became like, in just in society in general, the new norm, because like, let's use Amazon, for instance, you order something, everyone thinks like, oh, two days later, you have it right. So it's, you become accustomed to something, you know, you kind of like, get spoiled in a way and you think automatically like, oh, well, that should happen there. But fortunately,

When you're dealing with, like you said, you know, mass or props, some of these big animatronics, you know, they have, they have huge air compressors that run them bigger than an automotive shop would have. So all of that stuff takes time to ship to you. It takes time to put that order together. There's inspections that are involved with that. So, I mean, it's just, you know, nothing that is worth having is honestly built overnight.

Syd (17:24.056)

Yeah.

Syd (17:45.151)

Yeah, yeah, and the same with any marketing or social media or anything. It's it's the same. It's it's not going to happen overnight.

Amy (17:52.918)

Yeah, it's social media and marketing there. It's all about making the right connections, engagement, sharing other people's content. You wanna follow the 80-20. You wanna, you know, basically what I mean by 80-20 is, is you wanna share 80% of other people's content and then only 20% of it should be yours. So basically in social media, you honestly wanna give more than you take. And...

Syd (18:21.228)

Mm-hmm.

Amy (18:22.602)

you know, a lot of people think like, oh, well, on social, like, this is going to bring me so many cells, it's going to do this. Your social media can be used to help you make cells, but it's really just informational. And it's really just social. It's about sharing images that people want to engage with sharing content that people engage with that they may really cannot, you know, care too much about your service. But when they share it,

Syd (18:36.201)

Mm-hmm.

Amy (18:47.49)

they're going to probably share it and somebody will see it that does care about your service and that's the whole thing. It's a way of just, you know, like I said, social marketing. So, you know, that's how social interaction works. You may tell someone about your business. They may not care, but someone may overhear it and may care. It's the same thing.

Syd (18:57.143)

Mm-hmm.

Syd (19:04.519)

Yeah. And that's actually a good point too, was bringing that up, because again, you don't always know everything about social media, and especially if you're brand new. Like you said, when they just made their Facebook, and they don't know, so it's a good thing that if they get with you, you can totally help them out, or, you know, just be able to guide them in the right direction. But again, still, it's not going to happen overnight, so don't expect anything magical to happen like that.

Amy (19:33.347)

complete.

Syd (19:35.871)

Yeah, it's crazy. Can you share with us one memory you have of working at a haunted attraction?

Amy (19:45.122)

Oh, yeah. So, I will say I don't get scared too easy when I go through haunted houses because I think it's because I know how they're built and I know what goes on behind the scenes and I understand them. So, one night I had, honestly, I just got off of working and my uncle and one of my friends wanted to go through the haunted house and I was like,

Syd (19:57.013)

Yeah.

Amy (20:14.874)

Okay, well... They...

Kinda like the owners kinda staged something up that I didn't know about to scare me. And so I would just say, I don't do chainsaws in haunted houses or little dead girls. I just don't do that. I don't like little dolls and stuff. That stuff freaks me out. Like in real life, it freaks me out. So we were going through and I was kinda like pointing some stuff out. Well, now mind you, Creeper's Haunted House was located in Marietta, Georgia.

Syd (20:25.579)

Aww.

Syd (20:39.848)

Oh, jeez.

Amy (20:49.89)

And in the particular area they were in, it was kind of like certain areas of like the city was kind of like run down and like homeless people in that area was like a thing, you know? It wasn't too uncommon to like walk down the road and see a homeless person or you know, something. So anyways, when you got back to Hauna House though, you would come back through the back alleyway and then walk down a hallway out to like an opening. Well, there was...

Syd (20:49.896)

Okay.

Syd (21:05.049)

Yeah.

Syd (21:16.94)

I'm okay.

Amy (21:19.178)

a guy there and he left homeless, he was pushed around to shop the car, had a little bit tattered clothes, nothing out of the ordinary though, right? Like you just don't really think too much about it. Well, so I'm looking over to my left, this guy's on my right, my uncle is to my left and my friend is to my left. Next thing I know out of the corner of my eye, this guy flips up the tarp on the car

Syd (21:29.592)

Yeah.

Amy (21:48.07)

Yanks out a chainsaw, fires it up, and I just take off running because I'm thinking in my head this guy is fixing to literally kill us. Like this is real. I did not register to me where I was, what was going on, or anything like that. As I am running, three little girls come out in tighter doll clothes, all this and that, and they just start acting like they're from the Shining.

Syd (21:53.632)

Oh my god.

Syd (22:12.943)

I don't know.

Amy (22:17.722)

I freak out, I drop on the ground, I start crying because I just, I felt like I was in a complete horror movie and I thought it was real. And they and the owners just come out laughing and I'm like, really guys? That was not cool. Like, there were tons of people there too. They were still going through the haunted house, tons of people, everyone's seen this. I was like, this is just so not cool. So that's my most memorable, you know, memory is.

Syd (22:21.259)

Oh my gosh.

Amy (22:48.126)

experience in that because that night I thought I was fixing to really die.

Syd (22:51.895)

Yeah, that was like, flight or flight, that's what that sounded like.

Amy (22:56.463)

Yeah, it was basically that. Because we all took off running because we didn't know what was going on. It was the most surreal thing ever in my life. And I'm like, wow. So yeah, it was real crazy.

Syd (23:08.075)

Yeah, that sounds crazy. Oh my goodness. That probably would be interesting to see.

Amy (23:14.974)

Yeah, I know and that's just back before like, you know cell phones with videos were a thing and stuff because oh it would it would have been It would have been a viral youtube video if it yeah, it would have made it. I did I don't know. Yeah

Syd (23:19.843)

Yeah.

Syd (23:28.771)

is cruel. Oh jeez. Yeah, I could see why that would be something you'd never forget. Oh gosh.

Amy (23:30.274)

Yeah.

Amy (23:36.578)

I never, never will forget that. It's funny, because I just got off work, so I thought I knew everything and everyone there, because also too, when we had slow nights and whatnot, I would help out with maintenance too. So I knew everyone that was supposed to be there working, and they hid this so well and they planned it so well. And I was just, I was really shocked. So.

Syd (24:03.871)

Yeah, in a lot of ways that's pretty impressive, but still cruel.

Amy (24:07.798)

Yes, very cool, but impressive. Much cooler. Definitely.

Syd (24:12.333)

Yeah, jeez. Alright so what is your favorite horror movie and why?

Amy (24:18.126)

So my favorite horror movie, I don't know if it's really a horror movie, but I'd have to say it's Beetlejuice. I'm a big Michael Keaton fan. And I just love everything about Beetlejuice and Tim Burton's just creativity mind there. I don't think if anyone else other than Michael Keaton would have played Beetlejuice, I don't think it would have made it. There's just nothing better than that movie.

in general because it's made back like, what was it, like what, 89, 90, some around in there, I think. And back then, with technology and stuff and CGI and animation, that movie really to me just pushed the limits of what was in Hollywood at that time.

Syd (24:56.799)

Yeah, somewhere there, yeah.

Syd (25:11.391)

Yeah, that's true. That's a good point, yeah. Because it was still coming out, like around that time. But yeah. He did, he did an amazing job in that role. I don't think, like you said, I don't think anyone else could have done any better.

Amy (25:17.067)

Yeah.

Amy (25:25.046)

No, it's just like if you watch Beetlejuice and you go watch Batman with my, all you hear is like, you know, either Batman or Beetlejuice, like you just can't get the two voices out your head. And it's like, okay, what's going on?

Syd (25:28.813)

Mm-hmm.

Syd (25:39.759)

That's true, yeah, he was in Batman too. That's a good point. Yeah, and Tim Burton's amazing too, so I think the combination of both of them probably really made Beetlejuice as special as it is.

Amy (25:53.719)

Yes.

Syd (25:55.343)

because all of Tim Burton's movies are pretty cool, but that is a really good one.

Yeah, and they even talked about making a second one. I don't know if that's happening or not.

Amy (26:06.614)

Beetlejuice 2 is happening, it is real. It'll be out, I think, in September 2024, is what I think they have announced. It's 99% done. I don't know if they've started refilming to finish up yet because of the whole strike that they had with the union in Hollywood and all that with the people. So I don't know if they've started yet, but I've heard some more talks about it. I do know it's real.

Syd (26:26.261)

Yeah.

Amy (26:36.774)

It's surprising, Michael Keaton said he had no burning desire to reprise Beetlejuice role, which I thought was weird. He said he had no burning desire, but he was glad that he was able to do it. But he said if he never got to do it, it wouldn't have bothered him. I was like, it wouldn't have bothered me because I've been waiting on this movie for seven years because it's all I've heard about.

Syd (26:42.841)

Wow.

Syd (26:57.063)

I know, I mean I've been hearing about it for a while, I was like, is it a thing? Is it not gonna happen? I don't know. I was- cause people were saying yes, it's gonna happen and then people were like no, it's just- It's- and I was like, oh come on, just make up your mind already.

Amy (27:09.995)

Exactly.

Syd (27:11.336)

Oh geez, I'm sure it will be good.

Amy (27:14.826)

Yeah, it should be really good.

Syd (27:17.583)

Well, it's like when they talked about Hocus Pocus 2 for a long time and then finally it came out.

Amy (27:23.89)

Yeah, finally it did. And then I'm hearing things about a third Hocus Pocus as well. So we'll see how that works.

Syd (27:26.265)

Mm-hmm.

Syd (27:30.355)

Oh wow. Oh that's cool. That'd be cool if they do that.

Amy (27:35.19)

Yeah, it was even it was even kind of like the way that they were pushing it. It's kind of sound like that it may actually appear unannounced this year on Disney Plus or just unannounced next year on Disney Plus. It's really weird how Disney does things and they like to be secretive nowadays, you know, because they got Disney Plus. And so it's they've always been kind of secretive. I remember when you had to buy the black box from your cable company to get the Disney Channel. But.

Syd (27:50.858)

Yeah.

Syd (27:55.307)

Mm-hmm.

Syd (28:03.775)

Mm-hmm. Hehehe. Yeah, now it's all on an app, which whoever would have thought that would have been a thing.

Amy (28:10.338)

Yeah, exactly. Now you can go pretty much watch any Disney movie kind of like on Disney plus. I binge watch Halloween Town, Halloween Town 2, was it Halloween Town? Was it high school? Whatever the other one is. I don't know. Halloween Town is another one of my favorite Halloween movies. Yes, very much so classic.

Syd (28:22.568)

Oh yeah, yeah.

Syd (28:26.503)

Oh yeah, that's a classic.

Syd (28:31.179)

That one's really good too. I mean there's a bunch of, especially like 90s, that are just classics now.

Amy (28:38.925)

Yeah.

Syd (28:39.807)

And that's one of them. That was always something I remember even when I was little. We would always watch around Halloween time.

because they always had like their Disney movies that they would play around that time. And I know that was one of them.

Amy (28:53.014)

Yeah. Yeah, that was always one of them. Yeah, I'm the old Disney Channel, I will say that.

Syd (28:57.886)

Yeah.

Syd (29:02.368)

Yeah, I don't know if it's the same as it was when, you know, we were growing up. It's a little different now.

Amy (29:08.814)

It's a lot different, it's definitely not the same.

Syd (29:11.583)

Mm-hmm. Yeah, I mean I think even just having cable itself like you said when we actually used to watch it. I Think that was different too because again we had to watch commercials and you had to wait for the show to come on It was it was completely different than like you were we were talking about earlier how everything's constant and right now

Amy (29:31.758)

Exactly.

Syd (29:33.103)

So kind of, in a way it gave us patience because we had to wait for stuff.

Amy (29:37.386)

Yeah, we had to wait. We couldn't just binge watch it with all the one setting.

Syd (29:42.847)

Yeah, yeah. Patience is a really hard thing to find nowadays, and it makes sense why. Shh. Gosh. Can you share with us one of your favorite Halloween memories?

Amy (29:58.21)

Yeah, so my mother was really into Halloween. She had these little electronic animatronic figurines that you could turn on, they would move. One was a witch. I think one was a vampire. I think she had a Frankenstein one. Well, when I was a kid, my mom had this soundtrack that would play Halloween horror noises, right?

Syd (30:27.256)

Mm-hmm.

Amy (30:28.462)

So I would say my most memory that I have from there is when she turned on the soundtrack and the cat started meowing in Hinton. I was really terrified by that. And that's my most memory on Halloween is, I think I was like seven years old when I heard that. It was terrifying to me. Very, very, very sad.

Syd (30:57.327)

Yeah, again, back then sounds were a little bit more scary than they are today.

Amy (31:02.568)

Yes.

Syd (31:03.503)

Because that was the same way I remember my parents would have to wait to play the scary music until I left, you know, with other family to go trick-or-treating. And they would literally have to wait until I was not there to play it because I was so afraid of it.

Amy (31:20.444)

Yeah.

Syd (31:21.579)

Which, I mean again, back then it was a little easier, I think, probably to scare people because we're so desensitized now with everything. But yeah, I remember, that was terrifying.

So I could agree with that. And I heard that you're also doing, you said you were doing a contest on your Facebook page, right?

Amy (31:43.862)

Yes, so I am doing a contest on my Facebook page and what that consists of is we are giving away a free website and all you have to do to enter is just share the post. All this month during October I will be basically resharing that same post on our page, probably like every three to four days just to kind of keep it fresh and all you got to do is just share that out.

And on Halloween we will be announcing the winner. It'll be at random, so we're keeping a log of shares on the way that they come in. And we use this. Is it random dot org or random or organized random dot org is what we use, but we just punch in the number of how many people entered. And then what we're going to do is we run.

Syd (32:23.043)

Yeah.

Amy (32:38.582)

that random generator three times to be fair. So that way, you know, there's no hidden tricks or anything. This will all be video recorded when we do this and we'll run it and whatever number comes back on third time from that spot there, that's who will be getting the website and all the goodies in there. So it includes things like one for your web hosting, you know, animation website, all the bells and whistles that you could ask for.

Syd (32:41.998)

Mm-hmm.

Syd (33:08.668)

That's super cool that you're doing that.

Again, I don't know if a whole lot of businesses even do that, so that's really cool. And I was going to ask, that kind of leads into our next question, was where can we find you on social media and your website and stuff, can you tell us about that so any of our followers or listeners can find where you're at and hopefully follow you and support you.

Amy (33:17.174)

Yeah, it's.

Amy (33:34.326)

Certainly. So we're on Facebook, we're on Instagram, and we're on Twitter, which for those that are maybe new to Twitter can refer to it as X. So Twitter and X are the same thing. Our username on all those platforms is the Salemcraft, and our website is Salemcraft.com.

Syd (33:47.894)

Yeah

Syd (34:02.603)

Alright so you all heard it right there. Um, yeah. So for sure if you can, make sure you follow. If you want to win a free website, make sure you enter that contest. But yeah, any Haunters out there or like we were talking about home Haunters or even if you have a Haunted display and you want to get more attention, for sure make sure you check out the site and what Amy does and make sure you follow and give her a like, for sure.

Is there anything that you would like to share with us before we end this podcast?

Amy (34:36.429)

Bye.

I don't think so. I think we've covered a lot. I think we've pretty much went over a lot of things. My famous saying is stay spooktacular. So a lot of people will hear me say that in emails and whatnot. I always tell people to stay spooktacular. And well, I guess there is one thing I can throw out there too. So we're actually based in Newcastle, Pennsylvania. And

Syd (34:49.077)

Oh, I like it.

Syd (35:07.267)

Okay.

Amy (35:08.054)

Those don't know that is a town outside of Pittsburgh, PA, about one hour. So we're a little bit more north of the actual city itself.

Syd (35:18.931)

Nice and you guys got some really good hunts in that area too

Amy (35:23.242)

Yeah, we do. We have some pretty cool haunted house up here. The thing I like about living up here is I'm originally from Georgia and the thing I like living up about here though is there's always something to do. You can go to Gettysburg or you can go, you know, out towards York PA or you can go towards Philly or you can go, you know, you can just go over the state and find something, you know, Halloween or haunted related to do even during the season when it's not like we have oddity.

Syd (35:51.136)

Yeah.

Amy (35:52.075)

that come through here and stuff. So it's really cool.

Syd (35:55.683)

That is cool. That's kind of like similar to me. I grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, which is like a really small little city. And like pretty much everything closed to 10 and there wasn't anything to do so when we moved to Arizona it was like a complete change. And now like kind of like what you said there's always something to do and there's always different events going on and stuff. So in a lot of ways I'm really glad I moved because I don't know what I would be doing down there.

Amy (36:22.99)

So.

Syd (36:24.075)

I love my hometown, don't get me wrong, it's just too small.

Alright, well thank you so much for your time and for sharing everything with us. I'll also put your information also in the comments and stuff so if people want to follow you or find out more, they'll be able to. But we really do appreciate your time and we're really happy you're our second guest star which is really cool. We're hoping to get more so if you know anybody, especially you Amy, if you know anybody let them know but also our listeners, if you know anybody let them know. Just email us. It's pretty easy wouldn't you say?

It's pretty easy to set this up.

Amy (37:02.806)

Yeah, it's really easy. There's no pain in it whatsoever.

Syd (37:08.371)

Unless you want pain. Then I mean we could arrange that. No, I'm just kidding. Ha ha ha. Well, thank you so much, Amy.

Amy (37:15.926)

Sure, not a problem. It's been my pleasure and thank you for your time as well.

Syd (37:19.147)

Oh yeah, no problem. Well, thank you very, very much. We hope you have a good rest of your day and we're gonna get this out as soon as possible.

Amy (37:26.747)

Awesome. Alright, stay spectacular.

Syd (37:28.843)

You too, thank you.
